Ohio State Conducting Macular Degeneration StudyPosted 11/2/2009
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Wet age-related macular degeneration (AMD), a severe form of vision loss, is a leading cause of blindness for people over the age of 65.The Ohio State University Medical Center’s Department of Ophthalmology is seeking to enroll people with newly diagnosed wet AMD in a study to help advance the treatment options for this condition, which can affect both distance and close vision and make daily activities like reading impossible.Qualifying patients should have untreated, recently diagnosed wet AMD. Participants’ eligibility will be determined by a retina specialist at no charge. The study is being conducted to compare dosage levels of a particular AMD medication. A low-dose version of the medication has received FDA approval, but this study will help determine if a higher dosage is more effective. In addition to comparing medication dosages, the study will also compare standard treatment schedules. All study visits and medication are free of charge.
