Media Advisory: The James To Offer Unique 'Project Cancer Education'Posted 10/6/2009

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Elected officials and staff members, along with representatives from the Governor’s office and the Ohio Department of Health, have been invited to experience firsthand life as a cancer patient or caregiver during a unique program at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute on Wednesday (10/7).

The program, Project Cancer Education, will provide opportunities for policymakers to learn more about the complexities of cancer care. They will also gain a greater understanding of translational research and the relationship between research and patient care, along with the need for additional state funding for cancer research.

The event is closed to the public, but media are invited to attend. Media may park in The James driveway loop, 300 W. 10th Ave. Sessions run from 7:45 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 2:45 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday (10/7).

The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center- Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute is one of only 40 Comprehensive Cancer Centers in the United States designated by the National Cancer Institute. Ranked by U.S. News & World Report among the top 20 cancer hospitals in the nation, The James (www.jamesline.com) is the 180-bed adult patient-care component of the cancer program at The Ohio State University. The OSUCCC-James is one of only five centers in the country approved by the NCI to conduct both Phase I and Phase II clinical trials.
