Top Research Programs

Biomedical research is integral to all disciplines at OSU Medical Center, and in 2005 the Medical Center Strategic Plan identified six “Signature Programs” to drive future success in all three mission areas: research, patient care and education.

The “Signature Programs” – Cancer, Critical Care, Heart, Imaging, Neurosciences and Transplantation – share several characteristics, including demonstrated leadership, national reputation and potential for growth that can help the Medical Center achieve its goal of becoming a top-tier academic institution. The six programs were identified from a field of 75 that were analyzed and scored by more than 140 Medical Center leaders over several years.

In addition, the Strategic Plan identified Behavioral Medicine, Bioinformatics and Genetics as “Support Programs” instrumental to the future success of the “Signature Programs” and the Medical Center.

This section profiles each of the “Signature Programs” and highlights a key researcher or research team in the “Support Programs.” It also showcases a researcher in each of three identified “Emerging Programs” – Immunology, Robotics and Chronic Wound Healing – that will impact the Medical Center’s growing prominence.
