How to Become a Patient at Dodd Hall
If you or a family member is interested in being admitted to Dodd Hall Inpatient Rehabilitation, you must have a physician referral. You can ask the physician currently overseeing the care of the individual to contact Dodd Hall Admissions Office at 614-293-3824. If you are currently a patient at The Ohio State University Medical Center, please note that Dodd Hall is a separate admission process.

Referral Form Submission
- Patients currently at The Ohio State University Medical Center:
The patient's physician is required to complete and submit the consult form (MC040178) in eResults
- Prospective patients (not currently at The Ohio State University Medical Center): You or your physician should complete the patient referral form (must have physician sign it), and submit to the Admissions Office at Dodd Hall via fax (614-293-3198) or mail (Admissions, 480 Medical Center Drive, Columbus, OH 43210).
Consult/Patient Referral Form
The Dodd Hall Rehabilitation team will review the consult/referral form and evaluate the patient's medical, clinical and psychosocial status to ensure the patient meets the requirements for successful rehabilitation. A patient's willingness to participate in therapy is integral to successful rehabilitation. Therapy must begin within 36 hours from midnight of the day of admission. Concurrently with the consult review, the patient's health insurance will be assessed for rehabilitation coverage. Dodd Hall's Rehabilitation program accepts most types of insurance plans including workers' compensation, traditional insurance plans, managed care plans Medicare and Medicaid.
Special Financial Needs
Please let our Admissions staff know if you have any special financial needs. Our Patient Financial Services staff can help patients and families understand and apply for a variety of financial resources. Resources may include insurance and entitlements, such as Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Victims of Crime, Bureau of Motor Vehicle Claims Program and Hospital Care Assurance Program.

Our Admissions staff will notify the referring physician once the Dodd Hall consult team gives the "green light" for a patient's admission.
Each patient will receive an admissions packet to help you prepare for your stay. Our admissions packet includes: what to bring, introduction to team, facility layout, special services and other information about Dodd Hall.
The Dodd Hall Admissions office will coordinate patient transportation with the staff of the patient's current facility. We will work together to establish an expected time of arrival. Arrival prior to 4 p.m. is requested in order to allow the medical team to do a thorough patient evaluation.
The length of stay at Dodd Hall is from five-20 days. Dodd Hall has both semiprivate and private rooms. We try to accommodate patient requests for private rooms, with prioritization given to patients who must have isolation due to special infection protection needs.
At Dodd Hall, successful rehabilitation is a team effort and your family will play an important role in your therapy. Overnight accommodations for families are available at a discounted rated. If you are interested, please contact our Department of Social Work at 614-293-3827.
