The Patient Care Difference:
Recently adding 60 new inpatient beds, Ohio State's Ross Heart Hospital is now a 150-bed hospital dedicated to heart and vascular care. Our team is equipped to focus on several facets of heart and vascular care. Special features include:
--Our
Universal Bed model that allows heart and vascular patients to receive all their care in the comfort of their own private room.
--
Spacious rooms to easily accommodate all portable diagnostic and therapeutic equipment.
--Medical utilities easily accessible but stored out-of-view when not needed
--
Family-friendly rooms include a recliner and fold-out sofa to encourage family members to remain close and involved. Families also enjoy the five story glass atrium of our large, bright lobby.
Staff and equipment are delivered to the room as needed, putting the patient at the center of care. This means our care team is able to get to know each patient and his or her family on an intimate, personalized level, allowing for better communication and better care.
Dedicated Care:
Walking into Ohio State’s Ross Heart Hospital’s beautifully appointed lobby, patients are catered to with private patient registration rooms as well as the Ambulatory Care Center, where patients are seen on an outpatient basis for initial and follow-up visits. Also on the first floor is our Cardiac and Vascular Diagnostic Testing Center, where every diagnostic imaging technology – including the latest state-of-the-art equipment – is available.
Each floor of Ohio State’s Ross Heart Hospital is dedicated to a specific service, ensuring highly specialized, personalized care for each patient.
- 2Ross: Patients hospitalized for cardiovascular catheterization procedures that involve threading a thin flexible tube called a catheter through blood vessels of the heart, abdomen, arms or legs to examine or treat affected areas are grouped together.
- 4Ross: Patients requiring surgical procedures to repair or replace heart valves, correct congenital heart defects, or bypass blockages in the veins and arteries surrounding the heart are cared for by a specialized team.
Ohio State’s Ross Heart Hospital is home to some of the most advanced surgical technologies in central Ohio. Voice-activated image control systems allow surgeons to view previous imaging studies while surgery is in progress. The daVinci ® Surgical System allows surgeons to perform minimally invasive surgeries – with smaller incisions resulting in quicker recovery time – using advanced robotics and enhanced visualization.
- 5Ross: Vascular problems such as severe angina or chest pain, aneurism repair, peripheral artery disease and carotid artery disease are grouped to provide patients with specialized care. Our vascular surgeons are involved in research that integrates advanced imaging, progressive endovascular procedures and medical management based on molecular treatment targets. Vascular procedures – offered as minimally invasive procedures when appropriate – include revascularization of blood vessels to bring oxygen and nutrients to the heart muscle, endovascular repair with stent grafts and carotid artery repair.
- 6Ross: Our congestive heart failure team, including pulmonologists, cardiologists, electrophysiologists, interventional cardiologists and thoracic surgeons, work collaboratively to provide care for patients suffering from heart failure. Ohio State’s Ross Heart Hospital is a national leader in testing and developing new treatments for heart failure. As central Ohio’s only adult heart transplant program, our focus is on caring for each patients’ physical, psychological, emotional and society needs through the transplant process.
- 7Ross: Patients with chest pain, heart palpitations, shortness of breath or fainting caused by heart rhythm disorders like atrial fibrillation are cared for by one of the largest teams of electrophysiologists, or heart rhythm specialists, in the nation. Using catheter-based and minimally invasive surgical procedures our experts work to restore the heart’s rhythm. In the operating room, Ohio State is one of only four centers in the nation to offer a minimally invasive thorascopic procedure to identify and treat abnormal electrical pathways to the heart. Cardiologists, electrophysiologists and cardiothoracic surgeons work closely with patients to determine the individualized treatment that will work best.
