[back to top] Flower Arrangements and BalloonsLive plants and cut flowers are not permitted in The James or our intensive care units because they may spread infections. For James patients, floral arrangements made of silk, paper, plastic or ceramic may be given. Bone marrow transplant (BMT) patients may have only very small arrangements due to space limitations. Please check with the BMT unit for more specific instructions. For non-intensive care units at University Hospital, Ross Heart Hospital and University Hospital East flowers are delivered to patient rooms by a volunteer before 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. On Weekends, the florist will deliver flowers directly to patient rooms. Only mylar balloons are permitted in our hospitals; no rubber or latex balloons are allowed due to concerns about allergic reactions. Gift ShopThe Scarlet Ribbon Gift Shop has two locations where a variety of items are available, including personal items, cards, magazines, snacks and soft drinks.
[back to top] Guide DogsVisitors who need assistance from support dogs may take their animals to patient care areas with the exception of the Intensive Care Unit (Contact Security, 293-8500 about crates for support dogs.) Guide dogs must remain leashed and with the visitor at all times. Hope’s BoutiqueLocated at 4049 W. Dublin-Granville Road, Hope's Boutique is a convenient, comfortable shopping experience for women during cancer treatment, as well as those engaged in a more active lifestyle. Library for Health InformationThe Library for Health Information is located in University Hospital on the fifth floor of Rhodes Hall in the Atrium. The Library for Health Information is staffed by a librarian and specially-trained volunteers who can help you find health information. Books, pamphlets, videotapes and a computer with Internet access are available to you. Call (614) 293-3707 or e-mail health-info@osu.edu to request information. Hours are Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Friday 10 a.m.– 4 p.m. Lost and FoundIf you lose a personal item during your hospital stay, contact your nurse or call the Security Department at (614) 293-8500. However, please do not bring any jewelry, cash, credit cards or other valuables with you. We do not have any way of securing these in your room. If you wear eyeglasses, dentures or hearing aides, please bring the case or other appropriate labeled container for them. To talk with a social worker, contact the Department of Social Work at (614) 293-8427, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.– 5 p.m. Spiritual CareOhio State University Medical Center’s Department of Chaplaincy and Clinical Pastoral Education assists patients, families and Medical Center staff in meeting your spiritual and emotional needs. As your partners in healing, we provide chaplaincy and worship services, and can help connect you with your own pastor or faith representative. For assistance, please call us at (614) 293-8791 for OSU Medical Center main campus or (614) 257-3255 for University Hospital East. A Sanctuary is located at University Hospital in the Atrium waiting area (fifth floor of Rhodes Hall.) For a schedule of worship services or to request a visit with a chaplain, call the Department of Chaplaincy at (614) 293-8791. At University Hospital East, a Sanctuary is located on the third floor north wing. Walgreens PharmacyPatients (after discharge) and their families are welcome to use these pharmacies for their prescription and over-the-counter medications or medical and surgical supplies.
