Ohio State’s Medical Center is committed to providing high-quality personalized health care. The charges at Ohio State’s Medical Center reflect the level of medical care available at central Ohio’s only academic medical center. Care provided in this environment is supported by and contributes to the latest medical research discoveries.
Because of this dynamic learning and training environment, Ohio State’s Medical Center also invests in the most advanced medical equipment and offers specialized care not found elsewhere in central Ohio, including organ transplantation and severe burn care, as well as the highest-rated trauma and neonatal intensive care units available in the region. Patients here are treated by physicians, nurses and other staff who are training the next generation of America’s healthcare providers. We believe prices for care at Ohio State’s Medical Center are similar to charges at other academic medical centers in the Midwest region that offer comparable services.
The Medical Center’s charges are the same for all patients, but patients’ share of payment will vary depending on the type of coverage they have with their insurance company or government-sponsored program.
We are committed to providing care to all patients, regardless of their ability to pay. Patients who have no insurance or those who are unable to pay their medical bills should consult with our admitting and billing staff to determine whether they are eligible for a variety of financial assistance programs and/or discounts. Financial counselors are available between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays at (614) 293-0860.

LABOR AND DELIVERY CHARGES
Patients receiving care in The Ohio State University Medical Center’s Labor and Delivery unit have access to the most comprehensive high-risk obstetrics department in the region, should such services be needed. In addition, attending physicians are supported by some of the most highly skilled resident physicians in the country who seek their additional training in an academic medical center environment.
The following list does not include charges for anesthesia, drugs or supplies required for a particular delivery room procedure. Fees for physician services or anesthesia administration are also not reflected, and are billed separately by the physician.

EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT CHARGES
Ohio State’s Medical Center is home to one of only two Level I trauma centers in the region, meaning the most comprehensive immediate and surgical care is available to the most severely injured patients around the clock.
Emergency Department charges are based on the level of emergency care provided to our patients. The levels referenced in the chart below, with level I representing basic emergency care, reflect the type of accommodations needed, the personnel resources, the intensity of care and the amount of time needed to provide treatment.
The following charges do not include fees for drugs, supplies or additional procedures that may be required for a particular emergency treatment. They also do not include fees for Emergency Department physicians, who will bill separately for their services.

OPERATING ROOM CHARGESThe Ohio State University Medical Center’s surgeons are among the nation’s leaders in performing and training others on minimally invasive surgical techniques that reduce pain and recovery time for our patients. We also are home to central Ohio’s only comprehensive adult transplantation program, a nationally recognized bariatric surgery program, and renowned cancer, cardiac/vascular, orthopedic and neurological surgery programs.
Operating Room charges are based on the complexity level, with level 1 in the chart below referring to the most basic, for a particular operation. There is an initial set-up charge, plus charges for additional Operating Room time during which an operation is being performed.

PHYSICAL THERAPY CHARGES
Our physical and occupational therapy services are performed by staff working in one of the most highly regarded rehabilitation programs in the country. The stroke rehabilitation program at Ohio State University Medical Center is one of only nine in the nation and the first in Ohio to be accredited by the Commission on the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). Dodd Hall Rehabilitation Hospital is the only center in Ohio to be CARF accredited for stroke and brain injury. Accreditation means these programs meet the highest standards for quality and safety, providing risk reduction and accountability.
