• Musculoskeletal Imaging

  Musculoskeletal radiology involves taking medical images of bones and soft tissues, such as muscles, tendons and nerves. Our specialists treat everything from sports-related injuries to accident-related trauma. We use techniques such as X-ray, ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), bone densitometry, fluoroscopy and others. Other applications include arthritis, infection, cancer, congenital diseases, metabolic and endocrine diseases, gout, anemia and pre-surgery evaluation.

• Neuroradiology

  Neuroradiology focuses on the brain, spine, head and neck. We use high-tech imaging techniques to diagnose and provide life-saving treatments for brain disorders, such as stroke, and other health conditions.

  Through interventional neuroradiology, also called intra-arterial thrombolysis, specialists use advanced imaging and minimally invasive techniques that allow them to see inside the body and treat patients without surgery. Experts guide a thin tube through blood vessels, dissolve clots and restore blood flow. Through treatments like these, we can save lives while improving outcomes and quality of life.

• Nuclear Medicine

  Nuclear medicine is a radiology specialty that involves creating images of the body using very small amounts of radioactive materials. This state-of-the-art technology gives physicians a picture of the body’s structure and function for better diagnosis and treatment.

  Ohio State’s nuclear medicine specialists use positron emission tomography (PET), single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT), positron emission tomography (PET) combined with computed tomography (PET-CT), and bone scanning. • Thoracic Imaging

  This is a specialty of radiology that looks at the structure of the lungs and heart. Types of thoracic imaging include X-ray, ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT) and fluoroscopy. This type of imaging may be used to diagnose and treat a variety of conditions. • Ultrasound

  Ultrasound (or sonogram) imaging uses sound waves to look inside the body. Ohio State’s ultrasound specialists use advanced equipment to capture high-resolution images. They’re used to evaluate soft tissues as well as for deeper organ scans.

  Ohio State’s radiologists use this technology to view the heart, blood vessels, kidneys, liver and other organs. During pregnancy, we often use ultrasound to view the fetus.
