Leading-Edge Treatments

The Kidney Transplant Program at Ohio State’s Comprehensive Transplant Center has long been one of the largest programs in the United States. That means more chances to find matches for kidney transplant patients through our living donor exchange program and more experienced teams performing the transplants.

At Ohio State's Comprehensive Transplant Center (CTC), we take pride in maintaining cutting edge treatment methods and staying at the forefront of transplant research, as we have for the past 40 years.

With all transplant specialists together in one center, the patient is truly the focus of all care at Ohio State. Infectious diseases experts, endocrinologists, even coordinators and statisticians specializing in transplant care all work together in this dedicated model like few other centers around the nation.

We continue to advance patient care by participating in clinical trials of new immunosuppressive drugs and antirejection therapies. Our current standard of care is using steroid free immunosuppressive medications – a regimen available to only perhaps only one quarter of all patients in the U.S. at this time.

Another advancement, laparoscopic procedures for living kidney donors, has dramatically impacted recovery time and cosmetic results for donors.

One tool unique to the CTC is TransChart, a revolutionary, online secure database whereby lab results and medication information can be accessed remotely by physicians and nurses so that they may stay abreast of patient care. This unique service also benefits patients by providing access to the patient’s own information, enabling the patient to follow along with his/her own progress. Transplant centers from around the country have visited the CTC to learn about TransChart to be able to install this technology in their own hospitals.
