Patients at The Ohio State University Medical Center's Sleep Disorders Center receive individualized treatment based on their unique characteristics and symptoms at our state-of-the-art sleep center located at University Hospital East. We strive to optimize the entire experience for each patient. Staffed by physicians who are board-certified in sleep disorders medicine, as well as registered polysomnographic technologists, we provide treatment for all types of sleep disorders.
Pioneering Sleep Research
Patients also benefit from the pioneering research and treatment our physicians are engaged in. For example, our physicians established an integrated program that treats congestive heart failure (CHF) in patients also experiencing sleep disorders. Since launching this integrated program, physicians have seen, on average, a 10 percent to 30 percent improvement in heart function among many patients with CHF using CPAP machines that deliver continuous positive airway pressure during sleep. Additionally, our physicians are investigating the links with blood glucose levels, the role of fat cells and the effects on heart structure and function.
Specialty Sleep Programs
We offer specialty programs to our patients to enhance their treatment. One such program is a three part series on techniques to improve the quality of your sleep. These workshops help to reinforce and teach the recommendations made by our sleep physicians.
Children under the age of 18 are usually referred to Children’s Hospitals’ Sleep Disorders Center which assists primary care physicians and specialists with the diagnosis and treatment of infants, children and adolescents with sleep problems.
