An important component of OSU Medical Center’s rehabilitation program is the breadth of our outpatient rehabilitation services for adolescents and adults.
Our outpatient programs address adaptive life skills, such as communication, motor and sensory re-education, cognitive training and perceptual and psychosocial adjustment. Drawing upon the latest and most effective rehabilitation solutions, our programs are individually designed to meet the needs of each patient and include both one-on-one therapy sessions as well as group therapy.
The outpatient team of licensed rehabilitation experts treats a variety of conditions -- ranging from fractures and lower back pain to complex spinal cord and brain injuries -- with one goal in mind: helping people decrease pain and increase function. Our team also teaches patients home therapy techniques so they can continue their rehabilitation independently.
We also offer specialized physical therapy services for women to treat such conditions as incontinence, obstetrical dysfunction, pelvic floor tension and pain, fibromyalgia and osteoporosis.

OSU Physical Therapy Programs For Women
Physical therapy can treat and prevent a variety of medical conditions helping individuals increase function and decrease pain. The Ohio State University Medical Center offers specialized physical therapy services tailored to the specific needs of women. We provide physical therapy services for the following medical conditions:
Incontinence
Incontinence affects an estimated 25 million Americans, primarily women. Pelvic floor muscle weakness can contribute to incontinence. We address bladder (urine) and bowel (stool) control problems non-surgically through physical therapy treatments such as pelvic floor exercises, biofeedback/electrical stimulation and behavior modification.
Obstetrical Dysfunction
Many women suffer from pain in the back, shoulder blades, rib cage, groin area or wrists due to changes in posture, weight, or hormonal changes during and after pregnancy. To treat these conditions, we offer manual therapy, postural strengthening, body mechanics education and pain relief options.
Pelvic Floor Tension and Pain
Women can experience pelvic pain with symptoms such as pain during intercourse, difficulty sitting, or pain in the lower abdomen or hips. These symptoms can occur from problems with pelvic muscles, nerves, or joints. We offer physical therapy options such as pelvic floor muscle relaxation, pain relief options, manual therapy and biofeedback.
Fibromyalgia
Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition of widespread muscle and bone pain with specific tender points. Other symptoms may include: stiffness, fatigue and anxiety. Our treatments focus on increasing movement, function, flexibility and strength without increasing pain.
Osteoporosis
Osteoporosis occurs when bones become thin, brittle and break easily. We educate management of osteoporosis through posture and strength exercises, body mechanics, balance training and pain relief options.
If you suffer from one of these medical conditions, we can help. Our team of rehabilitation experts offers the most advanced physical therapy care available. In fact, OSU Medical Center’s rehabilitation program is consistently recognized as among the best rehabilitation programs in the country in “America’s Best Hospitals” issue of U.S. News & World Report magazine.
