OSU Outpatient Rehabilitation Centers deliver the latest rehabilitation solutions to help individuals live their lives to the fullest despite disabilities caused by trauma, illness, congenital deficits or disease. Our nationally recognized rehabilitation program is all about helping people overcome the obstacles, break through the barriers, meet the challenges and achieve their full potential. It’s all about ability.
At OSU Outpatient Rehabilitation Centers, referring physicians and their patients can find convenient care together with some of the most advanced technology and treatments available anywhere. That's because we apply the same high standards of care and level of quality that has made Dodd Hall, our inpatient rehabilitation facility, one of the top rehabilitation hospitals in the country.
OSU Outpatient Rehabilitation Centers provide a variety of rehabilitation services for adults and adolescents, including physical and occupational therapies and speech language pathology. We are trained to treat cases ranging from fractures and lower back pain to complex spinal cord and brain injuries.
Our Approach
The goal of OSU Outpatient Rehabilitation Centers is to help people decrease pain and increase function. Experienced, licensed professionals help persons with injuries and disabilities achieve the highest level of independence and quality of life possible.
Our holistic approach to rehabilitation actively involves patients and their families in achieving physical, social, cognitive and psychological gains that reflect their personal goals, abilities and lifestyle choices. We tailor our services to quickly meet each patient's unique and changing needs.
Our outcomes-based approach emphasizes a steady flow of communication among interdisciplinary team members and patients. Patients are actively involved in setting their own goals based on their limitations and lifestyle. We are continually tracking and evaluating the care we deliver to each patient. Teams review cases regularly for progress and modify plans for future visits.
Additionally, we compare our patients' progress with national standards so that we can improve our outcomes and satisfaction, and reduce recovery time and costs. Patient satisfaction surveys enable us to track information on how our outpatient rehabilitation services have improved our patients’ quality of life.
Our Continuity of Care
By providing comprehensive rehabilitation treatment to patients with acute or chronic problems, OSU Medical Center is able to deliver a level of care that efficiently and effectively meets a wide range of needs. At OSU Medical Center, care begins when patients are initially injured and doesn't end until they reach the highest level of independent function possible. The Medical Center has a Level 1 Trauma Center.
Our Approach
Our approach allows patients to work with the same therapists during their visits, encourages ongoing communications about patient progress and emphasizes collaboration with key specialists as needed. A wide variety of educational services help patients reach the next level of independence while supporting the needs of families. Our continuity of care is improving outcomes and patient satisfaction.
Our Rehabilitation Team
As part of a nationally recognized academic medical center, OSU Outpatient Rehabilitation Centers attract highly skilled staff that wants to work in a place known for its advanced treatments and therapies. Our rehabilitation patients benefit from having access to experts in other medical areas such as neurology, neurosurgery, orthopedics and oncology.
Successful rehabilitation is a team effort. Our team assists patients in making the most of every available rehabilitation opportunity, reinforces problem-solving strategies and delivers the right services to target individual needs.
At some of our comprehensive rehabilitation centers, patients may see several rehabilitation professionals in one location during the same visit, including physical therapists, occupational therapists and speech language pathologists. This convenient, coordinated care and timely communications between the patient, family and treatment team results in a quicker return to an independent lifestyle.
In response to increased demand in the communities we serve, several of our new facilities specialize exclusively in physical therapy services to support the needs of orthopaedic and post operative patients as well as individuals who are recovering from sports-related injuries and orthopedic surgery.
Our Outpatient Rehabilitation Program
As a result of our affiliation with the OSU Medical Center, our specialized programs offer a level of excellence that is unmatched in central Ohio. Outpatient programs address adaptive life skills such as communications, motor and sensory re-education, cognitive training and perceptual and psychosocial adjustment. Drawing upon the latest and most effective rehabilitation solutions, our programs are individually designed to meet the needs of each patient and include both one-to-one therapy sessions as well as group therapy. Our goal is to teach patients home therapy programs so they can continue their rehabilitation independently.
