Spinal Muscular Atrophy Medication Study

We are currently enrolling ambulatory adults with SMA for a research study to determine if an FDA approved drug called valproic acid will increase muscle strength and function and improve general quality of life.

You may be eligible to participate if you are between 18 and 60 years of age and are able to walk 30 feet without assistance.  Participants will receive valproic acid for six months and placebo for six months.
