OSU Medical Center offers a comprehensive pulmonary rehabilitation program tailored specifically to meet the needs of participants who have COPD (chronic bronchitis, emphysema), asthma, cystic fibrosis, pulmonary fibrosis, sarcoidosis and other lung diseases that compromise a person’s ability to perform daily activities and quality of life.

Program Features
Rehab sessions take place on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday for approximately eight weeks.
Sessions consist of exercise and education.
Each session lasts approximately 2.5 hours.
Rehab exercise activities include stretching, lifting weights, treadmill, bicycle, upper body bicycle and NuStep.
Offer both morning and afternoon sessions.
Program Staff
The pulmonary rehabilitation team consists of a pulmonary physician, respiratory therapists, physical therapists, exercise physiologists, behaviorists, dietitians and nurses.
The team has extensive experience working with patients with breathing problems and understands that it can be difficult to return to an active lifestyle after being hospitalized for a lung problem.
Evaluation Process
You will be scheduled for three appointments in order to be evaluated for rehab. They include the following:
Testing appointment – Breathing and exercise tests along with a blood gas.
Evaluation appointment – You will be seen by a member of the rehab team to perform a 6-minute walk and set program goals. This will be followed by a visit with the program medical director, Dr. Phillip Diaz.
Orientation appointment – This is a group orientation that describes the rehab program and starts the education component of the program.
Eligibility
Enrollment in the Outpatient Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program is dependent on a physician referral. Obtain a physician referral form.
