Outpatient Cardiac Rehabilitation

The Ohio State University Medical Center offers a comprehensive rehabilitation program designed to guide you and your family through the recovery process after a heart-related event. The Outpatient Cardiac Rehabilitation program provides education about the management and prevention of future heart events for people who have recently experienced a heart attack, coronary artery bypass surgery, heart valve surgery, heart transplant, heart/lung transplant, angioplasty/stent placement or angina symptoms.

The Program

Phase I: This cardiac rehabilitation phase is completed during your initial hospital stay.  A cardiac rehabilitation member provides  education and information to ease the transition from hospital to home.

Phase II: This phase begins after your hospital discharge and includes in-depth education about heart disease risk factors and counseling on lifestyle changes. Exercise is also an important component of this phase. After a rehabilitation physician’s evaluation, you begin a telemetry-monitored and medically supervised exercise program. You may attend up to 36 sessions of exercise depending on your insurance coverage.

Maintenance: Once you have completed Phase II cardiac rehabilitation, you may enter a maintenance program. An ongoing program helps you maintain an exercise regimen and offers continued staff and peer support.

Ohio State’s Medical Center Cardiac Rehabilitation Program is:
