GERD/Heartburn Care at Ohio State

Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) is a condition that occurs when stomach contents and acid back up into the esophagus.  This condition, which creates the sensation of heartburn, is one of the most common esophageal ailments Americans face today.

At The Ohio State University Medical Center, we offer a variety of options for personalized treatment of esophageal disorders. We have a team of specialty trained, board-certified surgeons who are dedicated to providing the best care, using advanced procedures, tailored to the individual patient. We are leaders in the field of endoluminal, incisionless fundoplication, including treatment for gastroesophageal reflux disease. Our surgeons are available for consultation and evaluation.

Diagnosing and Treating

If you have had symptoms of GERD and have been using antacids or other over-the-counter reflux medications for more than two weeks, you should see your healthcare provider.

The Ohio State University Medical Center physicians are specialty trained and have expertise in managing the various symptoms caused by GERD.

Depending on the severity of your GERD, treatment may involve lifestyle changes, medications or surgery.
