Ohio State physicians were the first in the country to perform surgery with the da Vinci® robot. Since then, OSU has pushed robotic surgery forward, exploring new surgical techniques and building a specialized staff that includes more than 25 surgeons who perform approximately 1,200 robotic surgeries annually.
Our robotics expertise in urology, gynecology, cardiac, thoracic, ENT, gastrointestinal oncology, and other specialties for both malignant and benign conditions, is unmatched in the region, and many of the most respected medical institutions across the nation look to us for robotic training.
Ohio State’s Center for Advanced Robotic Surgery is co-directed by Ronney Abaza, M.D., and Jeffrey Fowler, M.D. As the Director of Robotic Urologic Surgery, Dr. Abaza’s practice is solely dedicated to robotic surgery, and he is an expert in the use of robotic surgery to treat urologic conditions. As the Director of the Division of Gynecologic Oncology, Dr. Fowler is a pioneer in the use and expansion of the use of robotics to treat gynecologic cancers. Both co-directors Dr. Abaza and Dr. Fowler are the most experienced robotic surgeons in their specialties in the state of Ohio.
