The inpatient detoxification program is an intensive, medically-managed program in which patients are prescribed medication to facilitate a safe and comfortable withdrawal from chemicals. Patient assessment is completed on admission and a reassessment is conducted every three to six hours thereafter.

Detoxification serves as preparation for the next step in the recovery process. This brief and comprehensive evaluation and treatment period helps to manage the withdrawal syndrome and stabilize the chemically dependent person.

After the patient is medically stabilized, he or she is expected to participate in the education program, which consists of lectures, films and discussion groups. Counselors consult with patients individually and assist in developing treatment and post-discharge plans. Twelve-step program involvement is strongly encouraged and each patient is given a basic 12-step text.
