The Adolescent Addiction Services Program at Talbot Hall treats 12- to 18-year-olds who have become involved in substance abuse or show signs of chemical dependency. Our goal is to recognize the severity of abuse or dependence in each patient and end this destructive process through specialized education and therapy. The program is structured so that, in most cases, students may still attend school without interruption.

Like the Addiction Services Program for adults, the program for adolescents is founded on a “levels of care” format to meet the needs of the patient at the least restrictive level of care.

Hours: Mon., Tues., Thurs., 4:30-7:30 p.m.
Average Length of Stay: 18 sessions
Services Included: Patient education, crisis management, coping skills training, group and family counseling

Intensive Outpatient Services: for patients who are able to function at home or school. So as not to curtail normal activities, sessions are provided three hours per day, three days a week.

Continuing Care: At the conclusion of treatment, adolescents are recommended to attend continuing care to support ongoing recovery for up to one year. Continuing care groups meet one afternoon per week.

Education Group: The education group is an excellent option for adolescents who do not need the intensive treatment described above. The education group offers six, one-hour sessions over the course of six weeks, focusing on topics such as drug/alcohol education, anger management, peer pressure, family conflict, self-esteem building and goal setting. At the time of assessment, the therapist determines the individual’s appropriateness for this program.

Family Program: Talbot Hall staff believe that the involvement of patients’ families and/or guardians in the Adolescent Program is critical to facilitating change and achieving positive patient outcomes. We offer a group just for family members, and a combined adolescent/ family group -- both of which are held weekly. Family therapy sessions are provided on a regular basis for families who require additional assistance.
