In
the 2012-13 rankings Ohio State is recognized as a leader in cancer care,
cardiology and heart surgery, diabetes and endocrinology, ear, nose and throat
(otolaryngology), geriatrics, gynecology (women’s health), nephrology, pulmonology,
physical rehabilitation and urology.
Ohio State
also was named high-performing in gastroenterology, neurology and neurosurgery
and orthopedics. Specialties designated as “high-performing” scored extremely
high and perform nearly as well their nationally ranked counterparts.
“For
the 20th consecutive year, The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center’s inclusion
in the U.S. News & World Report survey reflects the outstanding care
provided in a broad range of specialties by our physicians, nurses and staff to
improve people’s lives and brings positive national attention to our university
and to Columbus,” said Dr. Steven G. Gabbe, CEO of Wexner Medical Center.
In addition, Nationwide
Children’s Hospital made U.S. News & World Report’s Honor
Roll list of the 2012-13 Best Children’s Hospitals rankings. Nationwide
Children’s serves as home to the department of pediatrics for Ohio State’s
College of Medicine, with many of their medical
staff and physician scientists holding faculty positions at the university.
The “America’s
Best Hospitals” issue, considered by many consumers and health care industry
analysts as a leading indicator of quality care and performance, is compiled
using data collected annually from more than 5,000 U.S. hospitals of varying
sizes.
