COLUMBUS, Ohio – Dr. G. Nicholas Verne (43221) has been named the new director of the division of digestive health at The Ohio State University Medical Center, effective June 18.
Verne was formerly the chief of gastroenterology at the North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System and a professor at the University of Florida College of Medicine. He was also on the faculty at the Medical University of South Carolina.
He is a graduate of the State University of New York Medical School and completed his residency in internal medicine at Albany Medical College and a post-doctoral fellowship in gastroenterology at the University of Florida.
“Dr. Verne’s arrival affords a unique opportunity to collaborate with Dr. Carlo DiLorenzo at Children’s, an expert in pediatric gastroenterology, and Dr. Jackie Wood, a professor in physiology at OSU,” says Dr. Michael Grever, chairman of internal medicine at Ohio State University Medical Center “This multidisciplinary group will make The Ohio State University a true leader in the study and treatment of gastric diseases.”
He is a diplomat of the National Board of Medical Examiners, as well as the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Internal Medicine for Gastroenterology.
Verne has also received several awards for his research. He holds National Institutes of Health funding for his study of mechanisms of central and peripheral hyperalgesia and received the President’s Award for Outstanding Teaching Research at the University of Florida. # # #
