A Ride in the Country
My wife, Pat, and I were thrilled when we had the opportunity to move back to Columbus three years ago. It's a dynamic city full of creative, innovative and generous people who come together each year in a very visible way for Pelotonia. In its two-year existence, this three-day cycling event along the scenic back roads of southeastern Ohio has attracted thousands of riders from all walks of life and all levels of ability to raise money for cancer research at Ohio State.
Pat and I have greatly enjoyed riding our tandem bicycle in Pelotonia each year. The camaraderie and passion of those riding in honor of others, the cheering spectators along the route and the notes of support from the donors sponsoring our ride make Pelotonia a unique and wonderful experience.
I encourage you to visit the website, pelotonia.org, to see how you can become involved in this year's event, as a rider, a volunteer or a donor. Read the amazing stories of love and support that motivate each rider.
We all look forward to a cancer-free world. The money raised in the first two years of Pelotonia is already being put to work in Ohio State research labs in hopes of understanding, preventing and treating this insidious disease. Join Pat and me and thousands of your central Ohio neighbors for Pelotonia 2011, Aug. 19–21.
