Excellence Attracts Excellence
One of the most enjoyable aspects of my job is recruiting new faculty who are leaders in clinical care, education and research. Over the past two years we've attracted many talented people and their staffs to Ohio State.
Physicians and physician-scientists like Ali Rezai, Robert Higgins, Maura Gillison, Jason Calhoun, Wael Jarjour, Richard White, Peter Embi, Theodoros Teknos, Timothy Hewett and Marc Tassé were actively recruited by many of America's top universities. They chose to come to Ohio State, and they give remarkably similar reasons for doing so.
They sensed an environment of collaboration, a commitment to excellence and a vision for the future. Our size and breadth of programs in a single location offer virtually limitless opportunities for joint projects, shared facilities and technology, training and continuing education.
I know from personal experience the attraction Ohio State has. My wife and I first came here in 1987. After leaving to serve in leadership roles at other medical centers, I was thrilled to have the opportunity to return to Ohio State in 2008. We can take for granted the people, the city and the excellence around us, but believe me and all the others who have chosen Ohio State as home for our families and our careers — there is something special about this place.
