Building the Future
The construction crane towering above The Ohio State University Medical Center campus this summer marks the next phase of ProjectONE, the largest development project in Ohio State’s history. When completed in 2014, ProjectONE will allow more patients to access our services through a new cancer hospital, a new critical care facility, dedicated teaching and research space and expanded and renovated patient care areas.
The new hospitals will be built with an environmentally responsible and resource-efficient design, which creates easy access to the outdoors and other calming features that improve patient comfort and promote healing. The private rooms include places for family members to stay overnight and advanced technology that allows for more in-room care, reducing the need for patient transport, thus improving efficiency, reducing stress, costs and exposure to infection.
ProjectONE is creating 5,000 construction jobs over the next four years and will generate an additional 10,000 permanent jobs upon completion. Its impact on the local economy is expected to exceed $1.7 billion each year in payroll, purchasing, research funding and other investments.
