The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and College of Nursing Externship Program
The Ohio State University Nurse Externship is an elective summer program. The program offers qualified nursing students the opportunity to work one-on-one with experienced, highly skilled nurses. Due to the transition from quarters to semesters during Summer 2012, the decision has been made not to offer the Nurse Externship this summer.
Who qualifies?
Nursing students enrolled in an accredited program who have completed their junior year of a baccalaureate program or students in the second year of an associate degree program graduating in 2013.
What are the program requirements?
- Must be a senior on track to graduate in 2013
- Have a GPA of 3.2 or higher
- Have a current CPR certification and
- Show evidence of nursing student liability insurance
What does the program include?
Externs are paired with an experienced RN preceptor for 24 hours per week on clinical units and 8 hours per week of interactive classroom activities. Externs will earn OSU course credit for successful completion of the program. For more information, download our Nurse Externship Brochure PDF

-Ohio State's Ross Heart Hospital
-Dodd Hall Rehabilitation Services
-Ohio State's James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute
-Ohio State University Hospital East

Important notice: Nurse externs who are selected to participate in the program must register for a 3-credit clinical elective at The Ohio State University and complete the job application for the Student Nurse Extern on The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center careers website.
