Medical Benefits

Your benefits start as soon as you begin working at OSU Medical Center. We offer several different medical plans designed to provide choices to best fit your needs and the needs of your family. The plans vary from the Traditional Plan to our Network Plan that includes comprehensive hospitalization coverage and moderate employee contributions. Retirement

All faculty and staff are offered participation in one of three retirement programs. Retirement Plan Forums are held to help with this decision. Ohio public institutions do not participate in the federal Social Security system, other than contributions to Medicare. View an explanation of retirement choices

Dental and Vision Benefits

The University’s Dental Plan provides coverage for many of the preventive and restorative dental services. Services, such as eye exams, eyeglasses and contact lenses are included through the Vision Plan. Employees who choose this coverage make contributions on a pre-tax basis.

Paid and Unpaid Leave

Employees can accrue both sick leave and vacation time, and have the opportunity to take a medical or personal leave of absence with advance notice and approval. We also provide holiday benefit pay for 10 observed holidays. Learn more...

Maternity/Paternity Benefits

Our supportive work environment offers solutions to faculty and staff who are balancing work and family commitments. Family and Medical Leave (FML) provides eligible employees up to 12 work-weeks of leave during any 12-month period including caring for a child during the first year following birth, adoption or foster care placement and other qualifying status changes. This includes up to 6 work-weeks paid parental leave for the birth mother and up to 3-work weeks paid parental leave for a father, domestic partner or adoptive parent to care for and bond with a newborn or newly adoptive child (based on an appointment of 100% FTE). Life Insurance

Under Ohio State’s Group Term Life Insurance program, eligible employees automatically receive life insurance coverage that is based on their regular annual base pay. Dependent Group Term Life Insurance and Voluntary Group Term Life Insurance are also offered to provide coverage for dependents and same-sex domestic partners. See more details...

Earn a degree or take classes to improve your career through the tuition assistance program. All employees 75 percent and over can take up to 10 credit hours of classes a quarter at Ohio State FREE. In addition, dependents pays a portion of the instructional and general fees for the employee’s spouse and eligible dependent children who take courses at Ohio State.
