Mortality/Survival Data

Since The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is an academic medical center, we often treat patients with life-threatening conditions. Based on analyses during 2012, our mortality rate is about 25 percent better than expected for the types of patients we treat.

The chart below shows the actual Ohio State's Wexner Medical Center mortality percentage rate versus the expected rate for all patients admitted to our hospitals (inpatients). ​

 

How do we make our survival rates as high as possible?
There are many things we do to keep our survival rates high. Here are just a few:

  • Ensure you get the right care at the right time.
  • Have teams in place that can rapidly respond to your clinical needs.
  • Adopt safe practices such as hand washing, computerized orders and safety checks before procedures.
  • Have physicians whom specialize in intensive care take care of our sickest patients.
