Hi! This week marks an historic beginning for the Medical Center and an exciting change in the way we stay in touch.

This Friday is the start of a new fiscal year, as well as the beginning of a fantastic partnership. On July 1st, we welcome more than 350 of our faculty physicians to the OSU Faculty Group Practice. These physicians were previously employed by the OSU Physician group in their clinical roles, but they’ll now be fully employed by The Ohio State University College of Medicine and the Office of Health Sciences.

This integration strengthens the partnership between the University, the physicians, our hospitals and the College of Medicine in a number of ways. It will help us prepare for the changes in healthcare access and healthcare delivery that are part of the Affordable Care Act. And, it will improve the patient experience at the Medical Center, through better coordination of care and improved outcomes.

I’d like to thank the many people who continue to work on our physician integration. Especially Dr. Chris Ellison, Kam Sigafoos, Rich Sobieray, Bob Bornstein, Kyle Sharp, Larry Lewellen, Alisa Schueneman, Almeta Cooper and her team, and all our colleagues on the University’s legal and HR teams.

The other change I mentioned at the beginning of this message is actually a change in this blog itself. Beginning in July, I’ll continue to provide a monthly video message like this one, and more frequent videos on important events, people and happenings around the Medical Center. I’ll also be blogging in written form on topics that are important to the Medical Center and the healthcare field. I welcome you to follow my blog at stevegabbe.wordpress.com.

Staying touch with you and keeping communication open is very important to me. I’ll continue to seek your input and feedback in many ways, from my blog, to roundtable breakfasts and luncheons and face-to-face meetings. And of course, I’m always a phone call or an e-mail away. And, as many of you know, I really mean that.

Well, have a great week, and a great year!
