Hi! It’s hard to believe, but the Thanksgiving holiday is here once again, and at OSU Medical Center we have so much to be thankful for this year.

We can be especially thankful for our patients and their families and for our opportunities to improve their lives, for the confidence they place in us every day, and for the referring physicians in our community and throughout the state who send their patients to us for care, and to our generous donors and funding agencies whose gifts and grants make many of our student scholarships and many of our clinical and research programs possible.

Along those lines, we have a new group of people to add to our thank-you list this year - the more than 2,200 riders in the first Pelotonia and their sponsors, who raised $4.5 million for cancer research here at Ohio State. Thanks to all of you who participated.

We must also thank the leaders of our University – President Gordon Gee and the OSU Board of Trustees including the chair, Les Wexner, as well as Alan Brass who chairs the Medical Affairs Committee and Judge Monte Marbley, the Vice Chair of that Committee for their unanimous approval of our plans to proceed with ProjectONE.

We can be thankful for all of the local and national organizations that recognized our efforts with awards and honors this year. To name only a few, there was our Magnet Redesignation in June – the first in central Ohio; our U.S. News College of Medicine rankings in April – up another three positions, moving us into the top 10 public medical schools; our tremendous Honor Roll ranking in the U.S. News Best Hospitals edition in July; we were named one of the top 10 academic medical centers in the country in quality by the University HealthSystem Consortium last month; not to mention our recognition by Business First as one of central Ohio’s Best Places to Work last week for the third year in a row.

Of course, behind all of these honors and accolades are great people. People like you. And, I think I speak for most of you when I say that, at Thanksgiving we are most thankful for the special people in our lives – those among our family, friends and our co-workers, who each day bring joy to our lives.

There’s no doubt it’s been a wonderful year at The OSU Medical Center. And on a more personal note, this year also marked my first year back at Ohio State after a few years away. Pat and I are both so thankful to be back here in Columbus, at this great University and it’s great Medical Center. You are all such special people. Thank you for welcoming us back and for everything you do each and every day to make The OSU Medical Center all that it is.

Have a safe and a happy Thanksgiving holiday and of course a great week.
