This week Dr. Gabbe talks about our 1 Focus initiative and what it means to everyone at OSUMC.
Hi! Today I want to talk about ONE. I have talked about this concept many times in the past. We are one University, one Medical Center delivering personalized health care one person at a time. But, today I’m going to talk about a different ONE – 1 Focus.
1 Focus: Patient Safety is a reminder that we are 1 team focused on patient safety, which is fundamental in providing high quality care to our patients. We’ll focus on 1 person at a time. 1 time makes a difference. Each 1 of us has to be accountable for our actions. Each 1 of us should professionally remind our colleagues to do the right thing for patient safety. Each of us should work together to provide a safe and high quality experience for every patient, every time. I know if I forget to wash my hands while visiting a patient, I should expect a colleague another physician, nurse, patient care associate or even the patient to remind me. Through our commitment to 1 Focus, we can build a culture dedicated to providing the safest care possible.
And actually, 1 Focus extends beyond just our faculty and staff. We are including our patients in this effort as well. We’ve just completed a Patient Safety Video that we’ll be showing to patients letting them know how they can partner with us to keep them safe. More information will be posted on OneSource soon.
Your feedback is critical in advancing safety at the OSU Medical Center. Earlier this month, an e-mail from Culture of Safety was sent to you with a link to the Culture of Patient Safety survey. You have until April 30 to anonymously share your perception about trust, cooperation and our commitment to providing a safe environment for our patients. Results from this survey will allow us to focus our improvement efforts on the areas of greatest opportunity.
The nursing team plays a critical role in patient safety as well as so many other areas of care here at the Medical Center. We should all be proud of the excellence in nursing practice within our Medical Center. One measure of excellence is Magnet designation. We look forward to the designation of all OSU hospitals, including our upcoming Magnet Resignation Site Visit to University Hospital, Ross Heart Hospital, and Dodd Hall by the American Nursing Credentialing Center the week of April 20th. I’ve asked our Chief Nurse Executive, Mary Nash to share some information about that visit.
MARY NASH:
Thank you Dr Gabbe. Magnet Designation plays a pivotal role in our future success. This designation is a gold standard in patient safety. In fact, only 5% of the hospitals in the nation hold this status. Magnet organizations are known for knowledge and expertise in the delivery of nursing care. They are high-performing and focused on quality outcomes.
As we prepare for the Magnet Re-designation site visit in the upcoming week, we will highlight examples of how our staff demonstrates a culture of safety, quality and personalized care every day. I’d like to thank Linda Chase, her leadership team, and others for their endurance as they have prepared for this upcoming visit.
Thank you Mary and thank you to all of our nurses for the outstanding care they provide.
And, thank you for your participation in the ONEvoice survey. Fifty-six percent of you completed the survey and your feedback will be important in creating change here at the Medical Center.
Finally, this is the last week of our Campus Campaign. Thanks to all of you who have made a donation already. I know that times are tough and our dollars are stretched, but EVERY gift makes a difference, no matter the size. If you have not yet made a gift, I encourage you to consider giving today. The easiest way to make a gift or find a fund to support is online via the Campus Campaign link on OneSource.
Well, have one great week!
