This week we are celebrating a big anniversary here at the Medical Center. On April 8, University Hospital East will mark a Decade of Difference - its 10th anniversary as part of the OSU Medical Center.
University Hospital East provides an excellent level of care and services—delivered by the same dedicated and highly-trained staff and physicians—as the rest of our Medical Center. Quality, safety and service are at the core of everything that happens at East. And, East has been ranked among the top academic hospitals for its low mortality rate.
East offers the benefits of an academic medical center in a convenient community setting. It provides patients with all the benefits of a community hospital—it’s small, friendly, and easy to negotiate, ¬and East offers the latest advancements and discoveries that you’d expect from a major academic medical center. University Hospital East is home to OSU Medical Center’s addiction medicine, sleep medicine, wound care, and orthopedics programs among many other services.
The nationally acclaimed wound care program has treated more than 40,000 patients and has a patient healing rate of 82 percent which is well above the national average. The orthopedics program cares for everyone from OSU elite athletes to weekend warriors. The sleep medicine program is the first accredited hospital-based sleep disorders center in central Ohio. You can see that our physicians and staff at University Hospital East are helping to improve people’s lives and further the mission of the entire Medical Center in patient care, research, and education.
The past ten years have brought many changes and a lot of growth to East. We’ve invested a great deal of resources into UH East, including a state-of-the-art surgical suite, a completely renovated and expanded emergency department, a new endoscopy suite, and we’re currently renovating the radiology department.
If you haven’t been to University Hospital East, you should visit. You might be surprised at what you find, and I know you’ll be as proud as I am of the work that is going on there.
