Hear about Dr. Gabbe's visit to an innovative surgical suite at the Medical Center -- one of only a few of its kind in the entire world.
I mentioned in my 100 Day Address that I'll be using rounding as an ongoing way to connect with our Medical Center teams.
Recently, I had the opportunity to visit a new innovative surgical suite here at the Medical Center one of only a few of its kind in the entire world. One characteristic of our academic medical center is innovation, and this is a great example of this core value.
In one place, this combination suite integrates advanced radiologic interventions and neurosurgery to provide the safest and most efficient environment for patients who have experienced brain and spinal cord injuries.
Because interventional vascular procedures guided by imaging are done in the operating room, patients benefit from quick access to surgical intervention should that become necessary.
Not only is the technology integrated but the teams are as well. Imaging professionals, neurosurgeons, nurses, techs and computer support staff all work together to treat some of life's most threatening situations – including central nervous system aneurysms and spinal cord injuries. This collaboration is key to our patients' present and their future.
During my visit I had the opportunity to meet many of the team members including, Drs. Nino Chiocca and Louis Caragine who are excellent leaders in this area.
The idea of integrating services within ONE place for the best patient outcome is the founding principle of Project ONE, the Medical Center's expansion plan that was formerly called the Master Space Plan. Not only will multiple services be integrated for the patient's benefit, but research and education will be even more integrated to enhance patient care.
As we continue to grow our facilities, customer service will remain as a top priority. Even with the most advanced physical facilities, we must remember, it's the warm smile and caring touch that our patients' remember the most. Let's never lose sight of that in this time of amazing technological advancement.
Well, thanks for all you do and have a great week.
