Physician-in-Chief at Ohio State’s Comprehensive Cancer Center –
James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute
Associate Director for Outreach
Professor, Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Medical Oncology
Member and former chair of the National Cancer Institute Colorectal Task Force
Came to Ohio State in 2011 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
What attracted me to Ohio State? The enthusiasm, vision for growth, and pledges to support our Comprehensive Cancer Center–James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute conveyed by University leaders, by community-based boards serving Ohio State and by my new colleagues.
How am I advancing personalized health care at Ohio State? In colorectal cancer,
tumors look alike under the microscope but have different vulnerabilities, depending on genetic changes. Understanding the individual patient’s tumor genetics to make informed treatment choices is the key to providing the best possible outcomes.
But for Ohio State... Columbus wouldn’t be known for cutting-edge cancer research, and our community wouldn’t be on the verge of opening a new James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute that will serve cancer patients from near and far as we continue working together to create a cancer-free world.
Ohio State’s reputation for excellence is drawing world-class talent to Columbus. We have attracted more than 215 experts in 2 years, and 87 percent of central Ohio’s Best Doctors are Ohio State faculty. Through their skill and dedication, we are delivering on our promise to improve people’s lives, and giving central Ohioans access to the very best care.
