Media Escorts

For patient confidentiality purposes, hospital policies require members of the media to be escorted by the Media Relations staff at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center when on the premises. Prior to any interview, photos or video on the medical campus or at any ambulatory care location, contact Ohio State Wexner Medical Center Media Relations to make arrangements.

Condition Reports

Patients and their families have the option of being listed in the patient directory at Ohio State Wexner Medical Center. If listed, the media relations office can provide one-word condition reports.

To obtain a condition report, please call 614-293-3737 Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (ET). After hours, please call the hospital operator at 614-293-8000 and ask for the hospital administrative manager to be paged.

The American Hospital Association has suggested the following one-word descriptions of a patient's general condition:

  • Fair: Vital signs are stable and within normal limits. Indicators are favorable.
  • Serious: Vital signs may be unstable and not within normal limits. Patient is acutely ill. Indicators are questionable.
  • Critical: Vital signs are unstable and not within normal limits. Patient may be unconscious. Indicators are unfavorable.
  • Not Listed: Patient is not listed in our patient directory. This could mean they have chosen not to be listed or are not at Ohio State Wexner Medical Center.

Stand Ups/Live Broadcasts

Media often conduct stand ups and live broadcasts on the Medical Center campus. In the interest of patient confidentiality and traffic flow, a staff member will assist you with finding the best location for your story. The best location for live stand ups is across the street from the plaza, and also provides a nice view of The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center marquee located on top of University Hospital. Please set up on the grass strip between Medical Center Drive and 8th Ave. Parking is available on 8th Ave.

Multimedia Use and A/V Capabilities

News media are permitted to download and publish/broadcast multimedia assets provided by Ohio State's Wexner Medical Center here in the Media Room.

The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center has a video studio equipped with cameras and teleprompters. The video team can facilitate high-quality Zoom feeds and remote Zoom interviews that can be recorded and uploaded for file delivery. Additional remote or virtual interview options are available.

Referencing Ohio State Wexner Medical Center

The Ohio State University Board of Trustees voted on February 12, 2012, to name The Ohio State University Medical Center in honor of university alumnus Leslie H. Wexner in recognition of his three decades of leadership and service to the university. The medical center is now known as The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.

  • Third and subsequent references: Ohio State Wexner Medical Center or OSUWMC.
